The Prince and Princess of Asturias attend Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre memorial for the two Officers killed last thursday.

see The sailing community held a one minute silence today, marking the opening of the Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre, at the main entrance of the Royal Palma Yacht Club in memory of the two agents of the Guardia Civil killed last Thursday.

Palma de Mallorca, 3rd August 2009.The sailing community held a one minute silence in memory of Carlos Sáenz de Tejada and Diego Salva, the two Guardia Civil police officers killed by ETA last week in Palmanova. The special memorial was announced by the Real Club Náutico de Palma on Friday, and was held today, the opening of the regatta, at the main entrance to the yacht club, in San Pedro Square, and was attended by a great number of sailors, club employees, journalists and members of the general public who gathered to show their solidarity.

The regatta, from a Maxi.

see "Alfa Romeo" and "Alegre", spectacular practice day in the bay of Palma .

Palma de Mallorca.- Today's practice has been an aperitif of what the IRC races in this 28 Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre can be. On the waters of the bay of Palma, two spectacular and large units: Maxi "Allegre" and Mini Maxi "Alfa Romeo". The regatta looks different from such a perspective.

"GIVE ME FIVE" will shine with nine olympic female stars.

see Arya 425 "Give me five" will shine in the 28th edition of the Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre thanks to the nine Olympic female stars which make up the boat's crew.

All of them belong to the group of 30 Olympic athletes and medallist that, under the name of Stelle Olimpiche work in favor of values involved by sport and fair play: respect for the contrary and the rules, a healthy way of living, and friendship. Stelle Olimpiche also supports charity causes as the programmes launched by UNICEF and ADOS ( Association for Prevention of Breast Cancer).

The 28th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre keeps on going.

see July 31st, Palma de Mallorca.- After a hard and sad day in Palma, where citizens and authorities condemned the terrorist attack happened yesterday, the most important regatta of the Mediterranean keeps on going with the activities previewed before the races -which will start next Monday-, doing final commissioning in the facilities of the Real Club Náutico de Palma, and confirming the registration of participants.

The regatta protocol will adjust to the three official mourning days declared by the Balearic Government.

PRESS RELEASE

The Real Club Náutico of Palma and the Organizing committee of the 28th Copa del Rey AUDI MAPFRE unqualifiedly condemns the brutal terrorist attack perpetrated in Palmanova which has caused the death of two agents of the Guardia Civil.

We present our condolences to the families of those who were killed or injured in the attack, and to the whole Guardia Civil force.

As a sign of respect, the Real Club Náutico de Palma and the Organizing Committee of the 28th Copa del Rey AUDI MAPFRE have decided to cancel the regatta's presentation act previewed for tomorrow Friday July 31st at 13:00 hours in the facilities of the club.

Should other measures be adopted, they will be announced.

IBERDROLA drops out.

The project lead by Agustín Zulueta and Laureano Wizner will finally not take part in the X-41 races of the 28th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre, as announced last week.

This happens, so the team, as a consequence of the several incompatibilities with the ISAF requirements ant the X-41 class itself, mainly concerning the professional crew restrictions.

IBERDROLA therefore decided not to participate in the Copa del Rey.

CAM registers for the Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre in IRC.

see Since technical requirements of the 28th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre prevented CAM of Olympic gold medallists Fernando León and Kiko Sánchez Luna from taking part under the RI rules, the two boat owners as well as the banking company itself decided to register the boat in the IRC class.

In order to do so, and to be as competitive as possible, they have chosen one of the best boats available, TP52 Artemis of Swedish boat owner Torbjorn Tornqvist, which took part in last year's Audi Med Cup circuit.

BEN AINSLEY within the Alfa Romeo Crew.

see Four times Olympia medallist as well as world champion Ben Ainsley will skipper the new 70 footer ALFA ROMEO of kiwi boat owner Neville Chrighton.

The new design by northamerican architects Reichel & Pugh, launched this year, will attend the Copa del Rey with such a qualified sailor as Ainsley, with the goal of taking the trophy to New Zealand.

The British sailor won silver in the Laser class in Atlanta 96, gold in Finn in Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Quingdao 2008, as well as several worldchampionships in the mentioned classes.

The GP42 class stays out.

see At the end it wasn't possible. In spite of the efforts of the Organizing Committee and the GP42 class -one of the two admitted "box rule" classes-, the 42 footers stay out in this 28th edition.

Only three boats had registered by the end of the registration period, Turismo Madrid, Islas Canarias Puerto Calero and Escuela Canaria de Vela.

Blanca Fernandez Ochoa and Bimba Bose onboard Maltesers.

see Blanca Fernandez Ochoa repeats as crew member of the X37 Maltesers, sponsored by Mars España. The boat which will be skippered by Natalia Vía Dufresne is entirely made up by women.

The regatta will also be attended by Bimba Bosé, the many-sided artist who has designed the image of the team, including the boat's decoration and the uniforms of the crew.

Manu Weiller helmsman onboard AUTORITAS at the Copa del Rey.

see After reaching an agreement with boat owner Javier Sanz, Manu Weiller will be the helmsman onboard X35 Autoritas. Sanz is also Vicepresident of the RCNP and President of the Organizing Committee of the 28th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre.

The popular skipper seems to like green, the institutional color, together with white, of Autoritas, also shared by Iberdrola, boat for which Weiller has just signed up.

For this appointment some sailing colleagues of Weiller will join the usual crew of Javier Sanz's Platu 25 Rigging Mar.
