The 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre closes the curtain with the prize giving ceremony presided by TRH The King and the Queen of Spain and HRH The Prince.

José Cusí`s Bribón wins the 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre in her farewell to the majorcan regatta, eleven editions after her last victory in 2000.

Jason Carroll`s Argo takes the first regatta American victory ever, whereas Jose María van der Ploeg`s Factorenergia clinches the trophy in the J-80 division, and Earlybird does so in IRC B.

Last day of races and the forecast couldn`t match the race schedule better: the sea breeze should start building in the late morning, reaching 10 to 11 knots by noon, and decrease as from 15:00 hours, when time limit for the last start of the day.

Racing is schedule with the start sequence beginning at 13:00 hours, with up to two races programmed for all divisions. No team is still home and dry except for Rats of Fire, virtual winner with 18 points advantage over second classified Cuadernos Rubio. The weather forecast announces up to 11 knots southwesterly wind, the local Embat which has delivered great sailing conditions during the whole week in the bay of Palma.

Palma de Mallorca, August 5th. Except for the Melges 32 and the RI 1 fleets, the rest of the 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre divisions will have to wait till tomorrow for their winners to be decided.

A fourth place would be enough for Bribón to take the honors in the IRC A division, thus giving José Cusí his sixth title in the closing year of the historical saga of boats. The rest of the leaders carry small advantages into the final day of the contest what guarantees very close racing. The reliable sea breeze of the bay of Palma, known as Embat, delivered one more day up to 10 knots and dropped along the afternoon.

If the weather matches the preview, races should again be held in a gentle sea breeze of ten to twelve knots from the 190, the same wind pattern that Palma has delivered in previous days.

Podiums are still not decided with four pending races after teams discarded their worst race yesterday in all classes but the Melges 32, which will do so today.

The committee expects to hold two winward-leeward races today and tomorrow, closing day, after which prizes will be delivered at Ses Voltes Gardens, next to Palma cathedral.

Their Majesties The Kings of Spain, TRH The Princes of Asturias, HRH Doña Elena, HRH Doña Cristina and the Duke of Palma, Don Iñaki Urdangarin, have presided over the commemorative dinner held in the RCN de Palma on the occasion of the 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre.

Discards were applied in the 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre after eight races were accomplished, bringing important changes to the classification: Bribón`s advantage over Container shrinks to six points in IRC A, whereas Speedy cuts down distances upon Earlybird in IRC B. The committee previews two windward leeward races for all divisions: IRC and Melges 32 will compete in race area Charlie, opposite Arenal, whereas RI and X-35 will do so in race track Bravo, opposite the port. The area Alpha, in the surroundings of Ca`n Pastilla and the airport, is reserved for the J-80s. Discards start aplying today in all classes after race 8 but for the Melges 32, which are two races behind the rest.

With a good victory in today’s 30 miles high scoring coastal race José Cusí`s Bribón took a big step towards their Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre victory in the IRC A division, as did Rats on Fire and Movistar in the RI 1 and 2 groups.

The Melges 32 class has been presented today in Spain on the occasion of its debut in the 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre, a competition the one design fleet expects to attend at least three more years.

The class has also announced that the 2011 World Championship will take place in the Real Club Naútico of Palma.

The second day of races in Palma delivered unusual conditions and a new leader in the IRC division, Bribón, a win for Argo and another for B-Lin Sailing.com in the Melges 32 class, and no big changes in the rest of the fleets.

The weather forecast previews easterly winds in the morning, and southwesterly in the early afternoon of up to 12 knots.

Palma de Mallorca, August 2nd. The committee`s weather forecast brings good news to the fleet this morning: the first of the two start guns of the day, due at 13:00 hours, should be fired in a light easterly breeze of 7 to 10 knots. The sun should then help the Embat, the local thermal wind from the S-SW, build in, reaching 10 to 12 knots if conditions allow it.

Today the Melges 32 go on stage in the race area Bravo, opposite the port, which they`ll share with the largest vessels of the fleet, those in the IRC division. The Charly race area, next to Cabo Blanco, will host the two RI fleets and the X-35 races. Last but not least, the J-80 class will be racing in the Alpha race area, in the surroundings of Can Pastilla.

On the occasion of the 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre, Melges Europa would like to invite the media to the Melges 32 class presentation breakfast, which will be followed by the Melges 32 world championship presentation.

German TP52 Container and Swan 45 Earlybird sign two bullets each in today`s two races to lead the IRC A and B scoring boards respectively.

J-80 world champion Ignacio Camino also scored two victories in as many races today, whereas a very tight contest in the X-35 class saw X on the Beach and Nextel Engineering win today.

The Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre organizing committee has confirmed today that HRH Princess Cristina will be at the helm of Aifos, the IRC converted TP52 belonging to the Spanish Army.

Galicia born skipper Roberto "Chuny" Bermúdez de Castro will take advantage of a month off from round the world campaign Camper Emirates Team New Zealand in order to participate in the 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre.

The Olympic and round the world sailor`s track record includes two Copa del Rey wins at the wheel of "Caixa Galicia", both clinched during the last decade. He has also participated in several off-shore campaigns onboard "Fortuna", "Pescanova", "Brasil 1", and "Delta Lloyd".

After this vacational short break during the month of August, the Spanish sailor will go back to the Round the World campaing, which will start from Alicante next October.

The most important regatta of the Mediterranean, to be held from the 1st till the 6th of August, includes two new classes racing in real time.

The Real Club Nautico of Palma presented this morning the 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre, " the most important regatta in the Mediterranean and a reference for sailing across the world" in the words of Javier Sanz, president of the organizing committee and vice president of the club. This year`s edition, to be held between the 1st and the 6th of August on the waters of the bay of Palma, will be marked by a high participation to over 120 boats, thus registering 31 more entries than last year, when 89 boats took part in the competition. The debut of two classes racing in real time, Melges 32 and J-80, adds nother highlight to this edition.

The insurance company Mapfre, which has been one of the main sponsors of the Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre together with Audi since 2008, will support three boats on this year`s edition.

National Geographic has become an official collaborator of the Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre. The Sala Magna of the RCNP will host a NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC STORES stand, where the company`s merchandising and its exclusive travel programme will be displayed. It will also show the new image of the store the company has just opened in Palma.

As official collaborator, National Geographic will be able to invite 10 guests on a racing day in order to enjoy the contest.

The world´s top Melges 32 sailors will take part in the 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre distributed in the 18 registered units. Olympic, World, and America´s Cup champions, along with sailors participating in the world`s top regattas as the Audi MedCup or the RC44 Circuit, form the contest`s impressive line up which next August 1st, at 13.00 hours, will come onto the stage.

When a sporting event, whatever its speciality, reaches 30 years, it can be said that it has made history.

The Copa del Rey started in 1982 as one of the events of the Campeonato Internacional del Mediterráneo -International Championship of the Mediterranean-. It was not until two years later, in 1984, that it was renamed to Copa del Rey.

After the X-41 class has not met the 10 boat minimum registration requirement to run an individual classification, the five X-41 class registered units will have the choice to race either in the IR or the IRC divisions.

Deadline for this decision is next Friday 15th.
